Process
The New Raw transforms plastic waste into sustainable, high-quality furniture through robotic 3D printing. Our process merges digital craftsmanship with traditional material sensibilities, creating pieces that are durable, fully circular, and rich in texture. We source locally recycled plastics, process them into raw material, and print each design on demand in our Rotterdam studio. Our layer-by-layer approach enhances the natural irregularities of the material, celebrating its transformation into functional and tactile objects. Every piece is designed to be long-lasting and recyclable, closing the loop of waste and proving that sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand.
Sustainability
Sustainability is one of our core values. Therefore, it is emphasized through each step of the production. We focus on local production and the use of recycled materials. By sourcing discarded plastics from local recyclers, The New Raw reduces transportation emissions, fosters connections with the local recycling community and maintains transparency in its recycling processes. In this way, we make full use of local waste streams and follow our zero-waste philosophy. All our products are fully recyclable. They are made from a single material and are free from adhesives or complex material combinations, ensuring they can be easily recycled.
In-House Production
All our products are crafted in-house at our Rotterdam facilities. By leveraging our self-developed robotic printing setup, we maintain full control over the final results, ensuring each piece meets to the highest standards of quality and design. Our production operates under a zero-waste philosophy, meaning nothing is discarded. Every material, including prototypes and production errors, is recycled back into production, in a closed-loop system.
Craftsmanship
We redefine craftsmanship through the integration of technology and traditional skill. We have developed our own slicing technique, tailored specifically to optimize our production needs, allowing for precision in every project. Each project commences with the creation of scaled models, which serve as a vital step in translating concepts into tangible realities. Our custom tools, designed in-house, are able to handle the specific demands of recycled materials. These tools enable us to innovate and refine our techniques continuously, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in sustainable design and production.
Colours and Textures
Our exploration of colors and textures is a foundational element of our design process, allowing us to expand the aesthetic possibilities of recycled materials. With each new material stream, we delve into its potential for various color palettes and textural effects, ensuring that every product is not only functional but also visually appealing. Through experiments with diverse material blends, we create hues and finishes that may last in time. This dedicated research into color and texture significantly enhances the character and sensory appeal of our creations, making each piece distinctively attractive while upholding our commitment to sustainability.
